Hospital jobs - what can I do as a 20 year old female?

I'm a 20 year old college student, can retail jobs deny me for my credit?

  • I'm in college and in December I charged my tuition to my credit card. I owe $1,500 more and I was recently laid off my job. I'm paying more than the minimum a month with whatever I have saved up from my other job, but I'm trying to find a new job to pay off the rest. I applied at stores like CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, stuff like that. I know they perform a background check, which may or may not include credit history. Can stores like those deny me on my credit alone?

  • Answer:

Are you asking if they can deny you employment for your credit? If you kept minimum payments to your credit card on time, you don't have bad credit. $1500 isn't bad for anyone who kept a balance at all with their credit cards. Yes, some larger companies does perform or subscribe to background check services. But even then, you have nothing to worry about. They're trying to weed out people who may have knowingly max out their credit before they file for bankruptcy. Apply to more places to cover your odds is a better way to ensure employment.

Based on that, no. As long as you're making payments, your credit history should be perfectly fine. Getting a job in retail during this economic down turn is another story.

It would be very rare to be denied a retail job because of bad credit. That would only happen if you worked in a bank where one of the first things they do is to check and see if you are in financial trouble. A Student loan would not prevent you from getting a job. Did you know that you can talk to the bank or wherever you got your loan and renegotiate the terms of your payments. Sometimes they will give you a period of time in which you don't have to pay the loan until you have another job. Banks and other loaning institutions in this financial crisis want their money and are willing to renegotiate. I hope you will try this.

they can if thats their policy which is how many companies are today. But if you've been paying your cc bil ontime dont worry about it.

Many employers do include credit checks as a way to assess a potential employee. If you have been paying at least the minimum on the due date each month, your credit is fine and is not a factor in your job search. Your real problem is the economy and most retail stores are cutting back.

Consider this. A dollar store manager would never give a job to someone that has money problems. They are more likely to steal money out of the till, or swipe items from the shelf. People that are in money trouble are a higher risk to companies. A simple 1,500 in credit card debt should NOT be reason you are not being offered the job. Collections and judgements is what they are looking for. Is there anything in your criminal history like a DUI or DWI? If you have never been late on your credit cards and are paying more than the minimum, you should not have this problem. Keep pounding the pavement. /

Probably not THOSE stores, but more expensive stores will, for reason that if you have financial difficulty it may make you more susceptible to stealing money or items. Coach does.

Well i don't see how you being a 20 year old college student really has anything to do with it. Background checks do not check for credit, and even if they did you would be alright sweetheart. Good luck finding a job, I hope you get one.

Bad Credit no ....Bankruptcy - yes...Bankruptcy will show on your record....Since most companies feel a person is "high risk" of theft for bankruptcy, they are likely to turn you down when compared to another person who has the same experience, but never bankrupt. I would suggest checking your credit and find out ways to improve it (consolidating debt, cutting credit cards and etc.). To ensure you have a clean background, I would check with instantbackground-report.com...I've been using this site to check on new hires for quite some time. Very reliable.
