How to use a debit card wisely?!?

• How do people manage their money?! I've had my debit card for about 2-3 months already & its just this free feeling from having the ability to use your own money rather than your parents. but with this card, the numbers just dropping ): i ended up purchasing online which decreased my balance, along with shopping & black friday ): how do you stop this temptation of using your debit card before its too late?!

  Think of your debit card as an alternative to a checkbook. Always keep a rough idea of your bank balance in your head. Every time you withdraw money or spend it, subtract that from your balance and be aware how much you just reduced your balance. That's real money you are spending. Having a piece of plastic with fancy artwork on it doesn't make it a magic wand that can conjure up whatever you desire. Next, if you want to use plastic online, get a credit card. Should your identity be stolen, or your card number, your liability is limited to $50. Beyond $50, the merchant or the bank who issued the card must take the loss. Not so with a debit card. Using your debit card information, a thief can spend or withdraw all your money, and it's a case of "You lose Buckwheat!". That's why banks push "check cards" now, which are really debit cards. It limits their liability, not yours. Do yourself a favor, and get a credit card for purchases, and only use that debit card to get cash at an ATM.
