If I a credit card is under a parent's account can the child build credit?
-
If a credit card is under the parent's account, but has the minor's name on it, can the minor build up credit, or do they have to have the card linked to their own account?
-
Answer:
Only until September. The law changes then. And only if you gave the minor's social security number to the credit card company, and you should check if the company reports to one of the three major agencies. If the child goes to college, however, a lot of the cards will offer a credit card to him/her. Just make sure the kid understands how to use credit and pays it back promptly.
