When buying something online with visa, what does it mean when it says it wants your card number?

  • like, not the 3 digit number on the back, which is the CVV Code. I mean the regular credit card number. It needs it, but when I put the whole number in, it says it's invalid??

    IF it is a gift card then you will find a limited number of sites that will accept it due to the fraud that is now rampant with them. IF there is a phone number on the card then call it and see if they can tell you what the problem is.

The problem with prepaid and gifts and debits are holds if your order is $50 and you have a $50 card the hold will take the $50 and unless it is release by the time your order is ready to ship which 99% of the time it is not the card will be rejected for the sale. You need 2 times the purchase amount. Also most online site do not accept prepaid or gift cards at all

Couple things to check... Be sure the card hasn't expired. Most times, they want NO spaces, so punch in card #'s only. Be sure that you are putting in the expiration date in the correct format. MM/YYYY or whatever they ask. Lastly, but mosat importantly...PLEASE be sure that the site you're buying on is a secure site!!! Here's the difference: Non sewcure will begin "http" Secure..."https" <-- the "s" means secure. If that site was not secure, call your card company & cancel that card & request another be sent.

If it's a gift card visa you may need to activate it by calling the number on the card. That might just be the issue.

My VISA card was denied three times before I was informed that it wasn't yet ACTIVATED !!!!!!! After that, things were cool.
