For now, concentrate on saving rather than borrowing.

Hi Chet Absolutely do not lie about your age or any of your details when applying for credit - a discrepancy such as this against the information held on your credit file will automatically flag up during the application process. It's good that you have a full time job, and undoubtedly you can afford the loan - however your lack of credit information will not be the only thing - your age, time at current address and whether you are on the electoral roll at your address (check this with your local council) all have an affect on your credit scoring. If you can quote a home phone number on your application, rather than a mobile one, most banks prefer this on their scoring systems. You could go to one of the specialist credit cards like vanquis, or capital one, though remember these are expensive cards. You'd do well to speak to your own bank, where you hold your current account, and ask them for the loan or credit card. To establish some credit, you might want to upgrade a basic bank account to a full service account (one with an overdraft) - this will help you by reporting credit information even if you're never using the overdraft facility and are always in credit.

Find some credit unions (assuming they have those in the UK) that offer products such as a secured credit card, or secured loans based on what's in your savings account. Borrow from it, pay it back, then wait. Within a few months, you should have a credit score. Did you apply with Capital One? If they exist in the UK. Capital One has a starter credit card, for people with no or bad credit. That is how I built my credit. Another option is getting store credit cards, but these don't build your credit as easily.

You have several options here. Cashplus is a very good prepaid card that helps to rebuild your credit rating as you use it. You can also use them as your main bank account paying standing orders/direct debits. They will also give you payday loans of up to £400 within minutes. The other option is to get a Vanquish credit card. They will give these to anyone and the reason why is that they charge 39.9% interest. The final option is to get a new credit file. When you turned 18 and applied for bank accounts/credit cards you had no credit file, so they opened one for you. Re-invent yourself 2 years younger and apply for a Vanquish card.

Best cheapest way to establish credit is a secured bank loan pay off over 7 months and repeat until you can get an unsecured one. Getting a CC to start your file is stupid
