Where do I go to find forms for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy?

  • I am trying to do my own bankruptcy but I keep running into sites that get my information then I get this phone call from lawyers. I want to file myself and all I need is a website that shows me how and what to file. Do anybody know where I can go online to get instructions on how to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy?

    Filing for bankruptcy under either Chpt 7 or 13 is complicated. There is no set method or standards to file pro se (without legal council). This is due to the individual state laws that vary on what you can discharge and can not, also the states income guidelines. Bankruptcy is nothing you should be trying to do yourself. You might not even be eligible to file chap 7. If most of your debts are loans or credit cards, you'll probably be forced to file Chap 13 and repay a good chunk of your exiting debt over a 5 yr period. I did chap 7 yrs ago and even with a lawyers help, it was scary and confusing-start with your local courthouse - they will probably say - you have to go to the law library and do your own research to find out everything yourself - they won;t give you free advice

Get a lawyer it doesn't cost as much as you might think. Its not something you want to do on your own.

Actually you need a lawyer to file for bankruptcy the correct way. Every thing that I have heard from people trying to do it themselves is that it turns into trouble. The best is to pay a bankruptcy lawyer to do all the paper work for you and to walk you through it. If you do try to do it your self, I think Staples sells the generic forms that you will need. Just remember that there is going to be a huge chance that you will need a lawyer anyway. Bankruptcy is like a divorce, you need a lawyer to make sure that all angles are covered and to save a lot of time and hassle.
