Best Buy Credit Card vs Any Other Credit Card?

  • My girlfriend wants to apply for a best buy credit card but she already has a credit card and is not over her limit. Are the advantages and disadvantages of the best buy credit card compared to any other credit card? I am trying to convince her not to get it but if there are advantages then I will consider her getting it. Note: She has an excellent credit score and makes the right range of cash to get accepted; so there is no need to post she has to get approved first.

Why does she want a Best Buy card? Is it for a specific purchase? Is she wanting to get it to buy something using their promotional interest free period? Is it something she can pay off within that period? You say she carries a balance on her credit card. Is it over 30% of what her limit is? If she is wanting to get the card to get something she needs and can pay off within the promotional free interest time ( I know they tend to run 12 to 18 mos no interest campaigns ) there isn't really anything bad about getting the card. But, if she is getting it just because she wants more credit, that's not the brightest thing to do. She is fine with one credit card and should pay that OFF instead of getting another card and putting a balance on that.

Best Buys credi card is issued by Household Bank. It would be better to get a MasterCard or Visa card because they can be used virtually everywhere. The only advantage to a Best Buy card is sometimes they offer 12-18 months same as cash which can save some bucks.
