How do I get credit for credit cards?

How long will it take to get my credit score to 700 from scratch with only credit cards.?

  • I just got my first two credit cards 3 months ago. One is a $500 limit bank of america visa and the other is $100 limit from macys. for the past 3 months I have used both cards less than 30% of the limit each month and paid them off on time. I have herd that it takes around 6 months to establish a score so I don't want to pay to check my score but I was wondering if anyone had any idea around what my credit score should be 3 more months from now. Also how long will it be till I will be in the 700 range if I keep going the way I am. Thanks

I don't know what your credit score will be, but it sounds like you're doing everything perfectly. Keep up the good work!

Years. Not months.

In the first 6 months your score will be down. New credit dings your rating for 6 months. Make sure you pay in full each and every single month, never carry a balance. After 6 months, call and ask the cards to raise your limit. Today, I want you to go to : annual credit report . com and look at your credit reports for free make sure your name and address is correct. Knowing what is on your report, and that everthing is correct is much more valuable than a score that major lenders like FHA do not go by. They look at your reports.....

Don't sweat it - don't go into debt just to create a credit score. If the time comes that you need a loan (mortgage), and you don't have enough history to have a good credit score, ask the loan company to check your credit history the good old fashioned way. Make sure you pay everything in full on time (credit cards, rent, other bills etc.) and you will be fine.

You won't even have a score till those accounts hit the 6 month point. But even then, don't waste money buying your score. And don't sign up for any of those credit monitoring services. You will need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment history to even begin to have a decent score. It will probably take longer to get to the 700 range. You build good credit over years, not months. If you want an idea of what your score is, CreditKarma.com offers a free score estimator that is sorta like FICO, give or take 50 points or so. But don't expect much.

It can take anywhere from 18 to 24 months if you're just starting out. A credit score changes about every 12 months and the accounts aways must be paid on time. You should the Visa card for gas and small items only and the balance should always be paid the following month.

It will take years. Just as long as you keep paying on time and don't default, there won't be a delay in improvement.

That depends on what your credit score is RIGHT NOW! Generally it takes YEARS of perfect credit to get into the 700's.
