What info do I need for debt validation letter?

Need advice on sending a second debt validation letter?

  • I sent a debt validation letter on June 1st and asked if they can provide me with proof that the statue of limitation hasn't expired, what the money they say I owe is for, explain/show how they calculated what I owe, and copies of any papers that showed I agreed to pay. I get a "response" but all it has is my name, address, last four digits of my ssn, the amount they say I owe, the last payment amount and the last payment date. There's no origianl documentation. What should I do now? What are my options?

  • Answer:

Don't expect an answer in less than a week. A month is probable more reasonable. BTW, how old is the debt? Do you believe that in fact you do not owe that money? In California the Statute of limitations is 4 years and starts to run from the date of your last payment or the date of your last written acknowledgment that you owe the debt, even though no money was paid with it. The ball is now in their court.
