Does Anyone Know a Good Collection Agency?

Collection agency payment options (West Asset Management)?

  • I added the company name just in case anyone's dealt with them before. Tried to negotiate a settlement with them today but the rep was pushing me to pay over the phone. I didn't go for it because I didn't feel comfortable. He suggested using a prepaid card which I would feel better about doing as long as there is some proof of payment with that method. What's the best way to pay a collection agency and do they differ greatly in what methods they accept? I've read that wiring money or using cashiers checks are good methods but are these widely accepted by the places? I have been deliberately given wrong information in my 2 calls to the collection agency in order to get me to pay more/quickly and over the phone so I want to be a little more prepared before the next time. I could easily picture the rep making an excuse as to why they can't accept those methods of payment, but I want to know what the odds are that they are telling the truth.

Update: Of course a USPS money order is acceptable. They're going to do their best to get your bank account #'s....Don't give them this. FYI: If you keep calling back, then they're probably going to figure out that you're desperate to clear this debt (which you are), so they probably won't give you a good settlement. --------------------------- If these people have waited several years for your payment, then they can wait one day for a UPS overnight for a money order. Don't give them your bank account #s. Do not use a prepaid debit card...it's impossible to trace and it leave no documentation of payment. Never, ever use wiring services like Western Union...again, this leaves no paper trail. I hope you have not told these people that you need this debt paid to join the USAF...if you have then they will hold your credit hostage. You need to get all terms in writing before you pay. They're either going to do it or they won't. The ball is in their court as you need to clear your credit to qualify for the military.

lying to a collections agent is illegal so smarten up quick. They will accept any payment you make, the rep wants immediate payment so they get paid faster and they get more with a single payment then a stream of payments
