How to free & safely check your credit score?

  • I am 20 years old and I've been on my own for a year now , and have never checked my credit score before. I would like to know how I can check it for FREE and avoid scams and whatnot. I've seen the commercials for free credit report . com and stuff, but I don't want to get scammed. So how can I check it actually for free. and how often can I check it?

If you are buying a home, get your real score at MyFico.com The cost is about $20 After you review reports, if you have mistakes, correct them, then wait 60 days to get your score since it takes time for reports to update information. If you are just curious about your score and don't mind an estimate, there are sites that will give you a free estimate of where your score stands. Quizzle.com and Credit Karma.com They will send you a couple of emails on mortgages, just hit unsubscribe and they will stop right away. This is not a real fico score. They don't even use the same formula as the fico.

There is no such thing. Only credit REPORTS are 100% free. Credit scores are a product that you have to pay about $8-12 per score.

Like Angry Bird stated you can get one free report from each one once a year or one for free if you have be decline credit so you can see why you were decline. I use Credit Karma myself and it gives me a score each month and how my credit is doing. http://www.creditkarma.com
