Answer:
It's going to cost you money with fees and interest. Instead of doing that, why not just use the credit card for regular purchases you were going to be making anyway? Purchases are interest-free if you pay them off in full the first time you use your credit card. Just pick something like gas or groceries that you are buying at least once a month and use your credit card there. Remember to set aside the money to pay the bill when it comes and you'll build your credit every bit as fast as your suggested scheme without incurring ANY fees or interest at all. Why pay for something you can do for free?

At least once a month someone asks about this kind of plan. It won't work. Everytime you use the credit card to pull cash at the ATM, you will be charged a cash advance fee of 3% to 5%, depending on your card terms. The funds willl also immediately begin to accrue interest at the higher cash advance rate. This is a very expensive way to buy a few credit points. Instead, just keep it simple. Use the card for regular purchases, like groceries or gas. Wait for the statement, and pay the balance in full every month. That will build your credit and avoid all interest.

Yes you can do this and it will work. As you say you are paying a little to re establish your credit. I would recommend using the card for things you were going to pay cash for and then leaving the cash in your checking account. You then pay the minimum payment for as long as you feel you need to establish a payment record for. As you say it will cost you the interest to do this but you save yourself the 3% cash advance fee. Paying the balance off every month will show a zero balance every month and will not build your score. Although it will establish you with that bank. You must be making payments to help your score.

A cash advance costs you 3% up front. So if you take 300.00 from the card then you owe them $309.00. You only earn .02% on your bank account so when the bill is due you are short $8.70 thus a lost.

Most credit cards charge 19.24% APR on a cash advance. That is an expensive way to get credit. It is a dubious plan, at best., it will do little to help you. There is no secret to building credit. Pay you bills on time, for at least the minimum due , each month & your credit will improve. Pay in full & it goes up a tad faster. There is no other way to do it.
