Which company is the best for credit card debt?

Can a credit card company try to recollect discharged debt on new credit card offered by affiliated company?

  • I filed for bankruptcy last year on a credit card. This year I got an offer for a new credit card from a company that just recently merged with the old credit card I had filed bankruptcy on, can the old credit card company try to charge the old debt on my new credit card now that they have merged as one company?

  • Answer:

some body bought the bad debt and is trying to collect it from you. Don't take the bait as you will owe the new company the orginal balance. It is better to ignore them as it is a scam.

Trust me dude, even though the offer says, "you are pre-approved", things are wrong.

If it was discharged, then no they can't. But don't be suprised if they don't approve your credit card when you turn it in. It's just a pre-approval. Read the fine print.

Ditto the previous remarks. You filed last year? You better check with your attorney and/or trustee before attempting to apply for a loan or credit card. Your "plan" states you can't get a loan or credit card without approval. If you violate your plan, the trustee can toss the bankruptcy out and you will end up with creditors after you again, so be carefull about getting more credit cards.

If you were discharged in a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy then no one can come after you for the debts that were included in your filing-ever! As far as credit card companies merging that is happening everyday. The new company may or may not combine the records from the old company. Here is a real word example. I had a Fleet credit card. Bank of America bought Fleet. My credit report now shows I have a B of A credit card and the listing for Fleet shows transferred/sold/purchased by another lender. If you had filed and included either B of A or fleet it is not likely you will get any credit from them for at least 7 years if ever, depending on how long they keep it in their systems.
