How To Cancel My Meetlocals Account Completely?

Did my bank cancel my account after no use for almost a year but even if i had a negative balance?

  • So, I had this account with a bank and I had a debit card. I was working at this department store for a year while I was with the bank, my checks would go into the account. However, after I quit my job, I stopped using that account and I believe I even owed money on it. A month later, I got a job at Victoria's Secret and they gave me a bank card where all my checks would go. So, my account was never needed then. After I lose my job with them, I spent up until now, going to school and was unemployed. I just remembered about the account the other day and decided to check up on how much my debt was so I could see how much I needed to pay back. After all this time being unused, I had forgotten my user id to check up on my online bank statements. So, I tried retrieving it again by giving them my social and pin number and it said that it was unable to identify my records. I'm just curious, did they cancel my account even if I owed them? I know I opened an account with my mom too, the same day. However, I opened it when I was underage and I'm not sure If they might've just charged my debt to her card since maybe I was under her name still? I am not sure what is going on. can someone explain to me what might've happened?

  • Answer:

Why would the bank keep a negative balance account open for a year? They have closed the account and probably send the debt to collections. You are probably in the ChexSystem now and will have problems opening a new bank account. Check your credit report and see if the collection agency is reporting the debt. If not, physically go to the bank with your old account info and find out what you need to do to resolve the unpaid debt.

Other answers

If the account was in the negative you only have a certain number of days to bring it current. Read the contract you signed when you opened the account. Unless your mother paid the balance then it still exists. If she signed when you opened the account and they can't come after you then they will come after her to recover the balance. Given that you stated you recently opened a new account, it is likely already paid.
