Why are gas prices rising?

Why are gas prices rising so fast.?

  • I just don't understand. yeah, i know who does. i just can't believe that "they" would put this strain on people now when we are all planning our vacations. I mean not everyone is going to still go! so does that not effect the economy??? and why is it that not all gas stations charge the same for gas? i seen one gas station for 2.99 and then one right across the street for 3.16 HELLO! jeeze don't you hate it when that happens?

  • Answer:

first: Opec nations are supplying less oil. so supply is down. We are hitting peak driving season so demand is up alone in the US. Next, China government is starting to open up the markets more so their economy is booming right now. People want more amneities such as oil so world demand is now up. There is less and less new oil being found year after year. so long term supply (decades worth) is far down. So with supply down a lot and demand up a lot prices are going to rise a lot to get some people from buying as much so we don't completly run out like back in the 70s. If you want prices to go down more. quit buying gas. not for one day but for over a year. Cant do that completly start driving less and walking, running, and riding your bike more. with less oil being used supply can build up. When there is more supply then demand prices go down.

The price is largely able to be manipulated by the largest oil companies like Exxon Mobil, Chevron, etc. They have the ability to close down refineries for repairs whenever they choose. In turn, prices change due to the expected decrease in supply. The question is whether or not price gouging is occurring. This may be hard to prove either way, so one thing you can do to help alleviate the prices is to buy stock in the same companies with the records profits.

Because there is a war going on in Iraq and they are burning the oil for nothing.

The government controls the price of oil through taxes. Otherwise they're would be more oil companies competing against each other.
