Do Starbucks baristas get free drinks on shift?

Do Starbucks baristas or shift supervisors make more money?

  • I am considering working for Starbucks and would like to know which position makes more money at the end of the day. I would guess that the raw wage is greater for the supervisor, but then there is the question of who gets tipped out for the day. Do supervisors in NY get a portion of the tips as well? Also, anyone who has worked both positions, which have you enjoyed more?

  • Answer:

Yes, supervisors get tips as well. Only assistant managers and store managers are excluded from the tips. There are two things to consider, though. Yes, supervisors do make more money that baristas, but only about a dollar more per hour. However, there is only one supervisor working at a time, and there can be 2, 3, 4, even 5 baristas working at a time. Your odds for getting the greatest amount of hours are as a barista. So, even if you're making a dollar more per hour, if you're working 20 less hours than you would as a barista, it's not worth it.
