Does usps deliver mail everyday?

Certified mail delivered at 5:50am? USPS deliver that early?

  • I sent a letter to IRS in Atlanta via certified mail USPS. I was tracking it online and it said it was delivered at 5:50am. Do USPS trucks run that early in the morning?

  • Answer:

    The IRS may have what is called "Caller Service". Their mail is held out separately and can be picked up before the general public can obtain their mail. They do pay a large fee for this service.

Very unusual, but not completely unheard of, especially since that was undoubtedly a special truckload going direct from the main Post Office to the IRS offices.

It's not a matter of USPS trucks 'running that early in the day'. What you don't realize is that you are not the only person sending the IRS a certified letter. IRS service centers across the country receive large quantities of them every single day. They are processed in bulk at the postal facility that handles the mail for that service center. They are not signed for individually by an IRS representative. Someone from the IRS may come to collect all of the mail, certifieds included, or it all may be delivered by a USPS employee, but in either case, this transfer of custody takes place later in the day.
