What is the difference between a Visa card and a Mastercard?

What's the difference between a Visa and a MasterCard credit card? Are they from the same company?

  • Answer:

They are from different companies and are available from different banks. One group supports Visa the other MC. Most retailers take both but there are a few that only take one or the other (many due to costs at the banks). Both offer similar credit lines, similar protection plans (for theft or loss etc), same swipe type, etc. Difference is which does your bank distribute or where you'll make your payment. Even the interest amount is similar. Look for the best deal, who has lowest interest over the year (not necessarily on just the first 3 months or so), lowest extra services costs etc.
