What happens with petty theft at wal-mart?

• if someone gets caught stealing at wal mart and gets caught. they get charged with petty theft. what happens after wards? do you go to court? Are you put on probation?

  After the arrest: They may write a citation and release the person. Or, the person may make bail. In any event, bail, or stay in jail, the next step is: PRELIMINARY HEARING THRU ARRAIGNMENT Here they give you a public defender, assuming someone that steals at WalMart doesent have money. After the person gets the attorney, they can plea not guityl and they set up the pretrial hearing, then go to the trial, and if guitly, off to jail or probation, fine....etc and jail possible. Or at the preliminary hearing, after seeing the public defender, they can plea bargain. I think the plea will be made, under conditions no jail time.. if.1st offence? Fine, and probation; the person see's the probation officer, and the probation officer-helps/makes the person do what the court orders...pay the fine...and be available for discussions with the probation officer. After this and one year, the person can do a post trial remedy called an exponsement..if the person meets all of the conditions...like no other dealings with the law, and did pay the fine, aand meet with probation officer.
