Is this a sign that I'm going to get fired? How can I prevent it?

What goals has he given you? Are these things that you can accomplish quickly? If they are, do them. In fact, do everything you can to go above and beyond expectations. If they are things that you can't do, the job isn't a good fit for you. Start looking for another job while you try to improve at your current one.

If he wanted you gone, you'd be gone. The fact that he seems willing to work with you is a good sign. Sometimes employers are hard on you, not because they don't like you, but because they do like you and want to be able to keep you. Without knowing all of the details, my advise is to try to clear your mind of any distractions that aren't work related. Spend some time each day outside of work, either studying something that's work-related, or thinking of ways you can improve, or questions you can ask. Mainly, you need to know exactly what your goals are, and then each day you can work toward meeting those goals.

Firstly take on board all of his suggestions for improvement..he developed a plan for you and I am guessing that perhaps he expected to see some improvement from you in that first week and possibly failed to do so...are you working towrards the improvements you developed in that plan, autonomously? (off your own back?). All out of work distractions need to be minimised this month, early nights,extra reading or study if its applicable, rest, relaxation and focus. You do not say if this is a career you wish to stay in. Is it? If it is you will do everything in your power to make yourself a useful and viable employee. If not start looking for a new job within your capabilities. Good luck
