Question on Using eBay and PayPal.

A question about using ebay?

  • if i bought something on ebay and found it was in a terrible condition and not useable but was advertised as new, if they refused to give a refund do ebay have the power to fine them? would ebay reimburse me for the item if the seller doesn't.

  • Answer:

I sell on eBay, so perhaps I can help. If you get something from a seller and it's not what you expected, you can open a Significantly Not As Described Case against the seller. The seller then has a certain amount of time to resolve this issue. They can either offer a full or partial refund, or they can send you a replacement. If they do either of these, then the case is considered closed as far as eBay is concerned. But if they fail to do anything to resolve the issue, you have the right to contact eBay customer service directly. eBay will then follow up on the case and possibly find in your favor and issue the refund to you. If it gets this far, eBay will then attempt to get the refund money from the seller. The seller will also have his/her seller account reviewed. If eBay finds that the seller has a history of these problems, or it looks like the seller at least has a recent rash of them, eBay can do lots of things to the seller, such as: - limiting the amount of items they can sell - putting their items lower in the search listings so buyers are less likely to find the items they have available - putting a 21-day hold on their PayPal funds - temporarily suspending their seller privileges - permanently suspending their account. So there really is no way to fine the seller, other than for eBay to try to recover any money eBay issued for refunds. BUT eBay does do some things to take care of "bad" or "problem" sellers. Hope this helps.

Other answers

Probably not, Ebay takes no responsibility over reimbursing, but they probably would contact the seller and cause him to refund the money.

Ebay doesn't fine or reimburse anyone. If you pay using Paypal and the deal goes wrong, you open a dispute via Ebay and they have the power to refund you/reclaim the original payment from the seller.

Ebay cannot "fine" anybody What they can/will do is refund your money then take over your claim against the seller
