After you sell an item on eBay what do you do?

Ebay-help. What if you don't want to sell an item to the bidders?

  • Hi I'm new to ebay and I decided to list my floor polisher for sale. The biddings just ended today and the highest bid I got for it was $1,125. I bought the floor polisher for $2,400 and it's brand new and only a month old. The problem is I don't want to sell it for that price. Is it compulsory to sell my floor polisher to the highest bidder? Can I take down my listing? and What happens if I don't sell my listed item? Thanks in advance. Thorough answers are really appreciated.

Putting a reserve on an auction usually reduces the number of bidders you get. Another option that I have seen is if the auction comes down to the final hour and you are not pleased with the results, you can cancel all bids and withdraw your item. This must be done prior to the end of the auction, however. Re-listing usually gets bidders to ask questions as to why you ended early, so be prepared. It also has the effect of some of your original bidders not bidding the second time around, unless you come up with a very good reason for ending early (bid not high enough is not a good reason). The problem here is that you piss off bidders who were getting their hopes up and you cut yourself out of potential last minute bids by scalpers. I once doubled the price of a rare book I was selling in the last 30 seconds of the auction. When I see an item I want, I always scalp to keep the purchase price low. If you bought your floor polisher new for $2,400, getting half price selling used is a good deal for you and the purchaser. It is like buying a new car. If you drive it off the lot and change your mind, you just lost thousands of dollars in depreciation. Complete the deal and learn from your mistake. If you get negative feedback, you will get fewer bidders in the future, which could cost you a lot more.

You are supposed to sell the item if you list it and let the auction go all the way through. If you sell it and take the money without shipping the item, you will be in big trouble. If you just do not sell it, you are going to have a very angry customer who will probably file a report on you and leave you terrible feedback. It probably will not get you kicked off ebay but it will look really bad on you and you will have some trouble with customers in the future. For future reference, when you have an item that you want a specific amount for, put a reserve price on it. That way, if you do not get the amount you want out of it you are not required to sell it.

You should have put a reserve on it if you didn't want it to sell so cheap.

email him "sorry i cant sell it to you" you dont have to give it to him you wernt under any contract

On an Ebay auction style listing after it ends technically you have to sell it to the highest bidder if you did not set a reserve price. However at the end of the day it is your money and floor polisher and you don't have to sell it if you don't want to. If I were you I will contact the highest bidder and apologize for any inconveniences and refund their money if they payed you already. Your only consequences will be that you will probably get a terrible negative feedback on you account and probably hurt your reputation if you ever tried to sell something else in the future
