They design local-area networks (LANs) for communication within the company and wide-area networks (WANs) to support Internet connections. As a network engineer, you will make sure that all the workstations, hubs, servers, routers, and switches work. You will also spend a significant amount of time responding to emergencies, such as hacker attacks or virus threats, and fielding computer-related questions from other employees. Network Technicians Network technicians serve many of the same functions as network engineers, but their focus is more likely to be on computer support, installation, and repair than on designing or building systems. As a network technician, you'll get lots of hands-on experience with routers, switches, hubs, modems, and other networking equipment. You might also help set up a user workstation, provide training to someone using the network for the first time, or install and configure a print server. Sometimes people who do the work described here are called network systems administrators.

I am in the field of network systems in the U.S. Army. I have had about $200,000 worth of training, and the Army is constantly upgrading their training and equipment. I am making a comfortable living for myself and my family, but things look even better when my enlistment is over. If you have any questions email me at [email protected] P.S. You won't have to go to Iraq.
