Working as a barista at Starbucks?

  • I just got hired as a barista at Starbucks. I have never worked as a barista before. I have been working in retail for nearly four years now so this will be a little different for me. I am looking forward to starting this job because I have always wanted to work at Starbucks. I love coffee and the people who work there seem so very nice and laid back. Is the training process hard? And how much do you usually make in tips daily working as a barista?

  • Answer:

I have worked as a barista for starbucks.. here are a few tips that should keep u out of trouble.. tips are usually between 60 to 90 bucks every week. payckeck is every two weeks. its listed as a part time job, however...u can post ur phone number on the board of ur store, in case u want to pick up more hours. avarage pay is actually small. i started at 7 15 an hour, and made close to 400 on my packeck( picking up shifts from other people all the time.) take time to learn everything. it will be hard, i wont lie to u.. but u will be able to say the drinks right, in the correct order within two months.. take it easy on urself..ive been there.. when the line is out the door, and u are " planted" at the bar...it gets crazy! dont give up. also understand that people are angry when they come in in the morning for their coffee.. someone actually spilled a whole cup of coffee on me on purpose! the hardest thing to learn is: 1. the pos system( the register pretty much) 2. the way u NEED to call ur drinks: if someone wants a medium size moca, cold, with non fat milk, and whiped cream on top...the proper way u need to call it back is: ICED GRANDE NON FAT WITH WHIP MOCA. it will take time, but u will also love it.. if u found this useful, please dont forget to vote best answer. :) also, dont expect to have a fixed 9-5. depedning on where u are located, ur store might open as early as mine did( 6.00 am) that means u NEED to be in front of the store door at 4:30 am. or, u could end up working closing shift as well...its not set in stone... ur "partners" as starbucks likes to refer to the other baristas, may seem nice, but u will come to find out that most is fake smiles. also- u will have customers at some point, that will be mean, and threat u by " calling corporate" if u know u didnt do a thing wrong, dont freak out. hand them a card with the phone number to corporate, and smile :) ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES starbucks has with new baristas, is making them understand the" NO ARGUING WITH A CUSTOMER " policy. SO BE AHEAD OF OTHERS AND KNOW THAT U SHOUD NEVER ARGUE WITH UR CUSTOMER-- IF HE/SHE SAYS SHE ORDERD SOMETHING ELSE( EVEN IF SHE DIDNT) TAKE THE" WRONG" DRINK AWAY, AND MAKE ANOTHER- NO QUESTIONS ASKED. ok...i think im rembling on now! lol! good luck to u!
