Who owns the internet?

  • Excuse my ignorance but......... I have a few questions about the internet, Does anyone owns it all? or every country owns the internet in it's region, and where is it exacly, in the air??? or where are the computers that keeps the web pages and everything we upload? but really who owns the internet??? how does it works cause it looks to magical to be true! please no nasty answers, I know it sounds stupid to ask but i just don't know.

    Nobody, and everybody. That's the whole point of the Web. No one is in charge, and no one holds it all. It's everywhere at once. Every single bit of information on the Web started out on *somebody's* private computer, either at home or at work. They uploaded that information to a site that's accessible via everyone else's computer, and voila -- the World Wide Web!

this is a very complicated question. first off no one owns the internet. countries can limit what u can see or use in the internet with filters but they don't own it. the internet is inside of computer basically. all over the world there are millions of buildings with lots of computers that "rent" space on their machines(servers) to people who own websites picture etc... they are called servers a normal computer has a max of 100 gigs of space this server rooms have 100 to 100000 times that amount of space.. the next step is to share the information. every website gets an address when u type that address your computer looks at a list of servers to see who has it... then it goes in the machine and that's how the internet works... wish i could explain it better but its a lot of information to type
