How many people prefer to speak with an American customer service rep. when you call about your product/serice?

I have called HP dozens of times with a problem i am having with my computer so today i have discovered the secret. YES the omniscient power over customer service. I usually get sent to India or some foreign country when i inquire about something i have purchased but not anymore. I have found out that if you simply say " i would like to speak with an American representative" they have to transfer you to an American. I just thought i would add this to yahoo answers because if your like me at all you understand how tedious it is to talk to someone who barely speaks English over the phone. yw. Calvin. ps: vista is awful, apple here i come.

Answer:
I made a phone call to AT &T U-verse today requesting to speak to an American rep. The rep repeatedly said that she could re-route my call but there was no way of assuring it would ever get to an American. I was told it could go to India or back to the Philippines instead. My husband called them prior to this and asked for a supervisor. The rep from India (I believe) gave him a very hard time. She repeatedly said for a solid thirty minutes or longer that she could help him. That's all she would say. The last thing she said to him before hanging up was, "what supervisor? We have many supervisors". My husband said "any supervisor". Which one? she asked. He told her, "your boss". She finally hung up on him. They've lost a customer because of this. I'm going back to Dish Satellite or Time Warner Cable. The people from Macy's are also an impossibility to resolve any issue with. Those we've spoken to are from India. I couldn't reason with them to save my life. These folks I spoke to were also robotic. I don't know if they don't understand or if they're simply hoping for one to get so impatient we just hang up. I paid my bill and cut up my card. I will no longer have any dealings with them. Too much hassle in the event there's another problem. I had so many problems with Delta Airlines. I was having a lot of communication issues with the reps until I wised up, asked for an American rep and no longer had the same problems as before. I'm tired of all this chaos when it comes to trying to resolve issues with those in various countries. I am absolutely not racist in the slightest bit but I am frustrated beyond words that I no longer receive the customer service I was accustomed to getting before all this global transition took place.

I've heard you can request it but haven't had the chance to try it yet. I agree, it's terribly trying to understand some of these people. Thanks for sharing the info!

Gosh, they're always Indian and always put upward inflection in the wrong places. CANNOT understand. Problems never get fixed. Thank God my computer is somewhat reliable.
