How do collection agencies get info?

What info can credit card co's & collection agencies get from your bank?

  • I have not paid my cc bill in 1 year+ as just a boat load of mishaps in my life. I intend on paying what I owe and ofcourse some type of penalty. The collections agency has not conformed with the law as far as no harassment (I looked it up). I then looked up the agency and they have numerous complaints-even from people who agree they are in default (and some who's bills were already paid off) I want to get a good deal when negotiating a pay-off, but not to the agency. Who may have access legally to my bank account balance? AND any addt'l info on the whole, will be appreciated

  • Answer:

Banking information can only be given out with express permission from you...or a supena from a court of law...you must give written dated permission (a fax will not do) Since they have your ssn they can pretend to be you which does lead to fraud but the bank is responsible for any losses you may also put a password on your acct to stop even that nasty trick...know that impersonating you is a federal felony. Check with your bank to see if anyone has tried to access your acct. This is a violation of FERPA law as well as the FDCI
