Can banks trace your paycheck to find out where they've Been cashed?
-
So I'm 17 and my bank won't let me cash my own checks they only let me deposit them because I'm not 18. So I needed money or weekend and I wmt to a cash fast kinda place where they endourced my check and cashed it for me. My mom however would flip a **** if she found out I did this cause she is ******* crazy like that. So she asked me what I did with my check cause usually I give it to her to cash but I didn't this time and I told her that I just deposited but she don't believe me for some reason. So is it possible for the bank to use my pay stub and trace the check back to find out where I cashed it at ? My mom is psycho and she'll kill me if she finds out I did this so am I ****** or can the bank not find out where it was cashed?

Answer:
The answer is yes - any check cashed has a full trail of paperwork behind it. Usually the stamps and signatures on paper checks.. nowadays it is mostly electronic recordkeeping anyway. If your Mom is a custodian on your depository account, that bank can tell her easily that you did not deposit the money. She can call, check online, or find out in many ways. Tracing the paycheck is different. Your employer issued the check, so your employer would need to agree to trace it. Somebody in the cash-chain needs to do this.. your Mom probably can't get this by herself unless she knows somebody "inside" the bank. You were given the check from your employer. (Employer can trace it) You cashed it at local cash fast place ( Cash Fast place can trace it.. and they might be fined if you lied about being 18 ) The bank that your check was issued on can also trace it. You are taking a lot of risk doing this. Cash Fast places take a cut of your check.. how much work did you put in and give that money to them? If you get caught cashing this (some states ok/ others illegal) under 18.. you could get a Juvenile conviction/probation.. that place could get fined or shut down. >>> These things could cost you your job, or limit your future job prospects. If I was your Mom, and I -really- wanted to know what happened, I could take your pay stub to the local branch of (employer's bank). Explain that my underage son/daughter lost this check, and I want to know what happened - was it stolen, or can bank reissue check? Bank will eventually tell her that the check was cashed, with alleged legitimate ID. They may tell her where it was cashed. If the check cashing place took your check and it is illegal to cash for under 18... I would involve police. In most cases - unless my child was a real mess, I might let this go one time; but if you tried it again, pray for help. I might also go to employer and insist on direct deposit.
