How many people accidentally fill their diesel cars with petrol?

too many people i reguarley attend broken down vehicles with the wrong fuel in them both petrol and diesel cars it is very possible too do on modern cars in the uk we clearly have different filler necks and nozzles from those in the us going by previous answers although putting diesel in a petrol is slightly tight its not impossible. i bet you wont be making that mistake again though was it rather costley too fix. i cant complain cos it keeps me in a job so one way too look at it is your keeping the economy going every little helps

Good question ... even police officers have been reported to have put petrol in diesel cars as 'they run so quietly'. I have my first diesel car after 40 years of motoring and I simply have to check the hose and the station from which it came several times before I pull the trigger. It's a whole new education.

You can put diesel in a petrol but you cannot put petrol in a diesel because the filler hole in a diesel is smaller than a petrol so the petrol filling nozzle will not fit in the diesel hole but a diesel nozzle will fit in the petrol hole

With older cars you can use either by mistake. On newer cars the "nozzles" won,t interchange I believe. I always double check the pump to car,

If you do, DON'T start the engine. It gets very expensive. Call the AA or your garage.

Ive almost done it a few times but always realized just be filling up :D

I doubt that anyone can tell you "how many people" - but it's not too uncommon.
