How many attempts did you take to pass practical driving test? any advice?
-
I live in the UK so i have a manual gearbox, I'm 19 and have been learning for a year and a half. I passed my theory first time last year. I have serious trouble passing my practical test and I failed for the third time yesterday, but my instructor says there is no point in any more lesson as I can drive fine when I am with her and when I go to football with my dad, I just panic really badly when it comes to test. Both this time and last time I failed for one thing, the first was something I didn't know how to do this time it was because a van fad parked to near the junction and I couldn't see round it, but there was a car coming. how many times did it take you to pass your driving test, and how can i stop panicking for my test, is there really any point to trying again?

Answer:
I passed last year on my, at least, 11th time. I was more and more nervous. To my relief my second last one was cancelled. That morning, when I got up (Only had 2 hours sleep) all my neck and face were covered in red blotches. Nerves are a funny thing. Before I took my next, and last one, I went to the Doctor and told him the situation. He prescribed 2 Valium, one for the night before and one for after my test. I didn't take the one after. I passed no problem in a strange car. The one I had been learning had to go to the garage. Good luck.

Your driving instructor has no more to offer. Find another driving instructor.

I failed the first three times as well, and I felt just like you. I stopped being so nervous and trying so hard and got it on the fourth try. Just pretend you are driving with your dad.

I passed first time. On the day of my test i didn't think of it as a test. I thought of it more like i was a taxi driver but didn't know where i was going so needed directions. But i think the main thing for me was chatting.Chat to who is testing you doing this will calm you down and you won't feel as nervous. If your chatting you won't be thinking about what you should be doing so much and you will drive more naturally instead of thinking must do this must do that. The more your thinking about what you should be doing the more chance of making a mistake.

Get rid of your instructor. Its obvious she does not know her job.. Find an instructor that will teach you the letter method. This is what is in the MOT Driving manual, and this is what you are tested on... When you have learnt that method you are almost 90% through your test. P.O.M Every time you move from a standing start. (P. Preparation) Prepare the vehicle to move. (O. Observation) Check your mirrors and your blind spot. (M. Manoeuvre) Move away safely without hindering other vehicles. M.S.M. Every time you alter your position on the road. (M.Mirror) Check your mirror before you move position. (S.Signal) To show you are moving your position. (M.Manoeuvre) Move into your position. This also applies when you move back to your position. M.S.P.S.L. Every time you turn into a junction or roundabout. (M.Mirror) (S.Signal) (P.Position) (S.Speed) (L.Look) All of these procedures must be done in that order every time. If you haven't been taught this way. Then you have wasted your money, and need to get an Instructor that will teach you this way Learning this way gives you more confidence, because you will know how to position your vehicle for every type of move. All you have to learn then is your ...Turn in the road....Your emergency stop...P.Parking...And your reverse. And these will incorporate this letter method as well.. ======================================… As for the thumb down........You haven't got a clue.! Read the Ministry Of Transport Driving Manual... You will see I'm right.

I fail few times too, but it take me so long to realize that you need to relax when comes to any kind of test, and just imagining no one are beside you, take a deep breath start with a slow movement to set yourself up, that will give you time to calm down fell the confident, hope this help. Sorry to hear about your driving test. P.S.: Or try to have a different peron seat beside you, do it few time see how it feel, then go for the test, good luck.

I passed first time about 2 weeks ago x You need to find a way of calming yourself down, you can always have your instructer in the back seat if that helps. Or just imagine that she's sat beside you, or that it's your dad sat there. And at junctions, if you can't quite see, you should be moving out slowly, until you can see well enough to make a decision as to whether to go or not, i had this trouble all the time, people park in all sorts of stupid places. Get your instructer to run through one more mock test with you. Also, get a good nights sleep, and enough food to keep you going, then calm yourself down. and even if something happens that makes you think "oh I've failed" keep going, in the hope the examiner will change his mind ;) I thought I'd failed, but I hadn't, so it just goes to show. Good Luck!! xx
