Is it a bad idea to get a manual transmission car if you go through a lot of traffic? and why?
-
On many forums, everytime someone posts "is it better auto or manual" most say auto if your going through traffic alot and drive it alot, or manual if you won't. I know manual is more fun, but thats about it - probably not fun in traffic? why? (explain!)

Answer:
The obviously reason is you are having yo shift all the time. The Manual is a lot more fun until you have to fight traffic and then try to work on your legs all day long. Everyone knows the advantage you get on fuel mileage. Truth is you spend so much time playing with the manual transmission that it about levels out with the automatic. I drove a stick for years. Now I am older. the automatic is for me.

it is not a bad idea, it would be tiring though to keep pushing the clutch, it is just easier if it is an automatic transmission. if you enjoy driving stick shift, it is not a bad thing overall.

Manual is more fun and you have the advantage of if you car won't start u can just push it, engage 2 gear and good to go. The bad thing about it is you get tired of shifting gears over and over while stuck in traffic.

Cause with constant stop and go you have to press the clutch every time and it is: !-st tiring ; 2-nd annoying ; 3-rd warns of the clutch 4-th bad for your back ; 5-th gas consumption is aw full etc.. NEVER STOPPED ME FROM OWNING MY 6-TH MANUAL CAR :)

If you drive thru a lot of stop and go traffic, the clutch will wear out faster as opposed to driving in the country where you can go miles without seeing a stop sign or red light.
It's totally up to you. There's people that drive Fords and others that drive Chevy. You just need to choice the one you like the most.

I prefer a manual transmission, but have to admit that an automatic is better in city or stop-and-go traffic.

Depends on how long you've been driving stick, to most people driving stick is second nature although a pain in traffic. A clutch-less manual is a good way to go. Although if it's cost effectiveness you're looking for that's a big deal. I know that some cars are about $900 for a different than standard Trans. If that's a big deal to you then you're better off getting the automatic, which is 9 times out of 10 the cheaper one. A manual in traffic is a bad idea but on an open road/highway you'll love it.
