I have just failed my fifth driving test due to nerves, can anyone recommend anything to help?

So as the question says I have failed again. I took Kalms leading up to the test and on the morning of the day I took it, yet I got more serious faults than last time. My instructor assures me I can drive and on the lesson before the test I did exceptionally well and felt really at ease and confident. My instructor hardly had to talk to me at all about faults. Then again I felt the same panic on the morning of the test and I drove completely differently to how I normally would, making silly mistakes repeatedly. I pulled out too far at a junction causing other traffic to have to go around my bonnet and I forgot to give way to the right at a roundabout. Basic stuff which I havn't got wrong since my early lessons! With each test you would expect someone to become less nervous because they know what to expect. I become more and more stressed because of the money and time involved. I simply cannot afford to take test after test after test. I live in a remote area and I need a car to get a better job and I cannot afford to learn without a job, so I am putting myself in debt to learn. I have told no-one but my instructor when I have had my tests to minimize the pressure on me and I have tried rescue remedy and kalms. I have tried taking a gentle herbal over the counter sleeping pill to ensure I get enough sleep the night before and have booked afternoon tests because I am not a morning person. Part of me believes its down to the last few years. I have struggled to get anything more than temp jobs since I left university three years ago, rejection after rejection. (Interviews make me just as terrified) I hate being judged by my every little move and always feel like I'm not good enough. Sometimes find I am shaking or can barely talk. Any serious suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Answer:
Just remember, your test is the same as a lesson, just with someone sat there. Its not the end of the world if you fail, you just need to redo it again. You will pass eventually! If your instructor didnt think you were ready he wouldnt have entered you or encouraged you when you entered for your test (and lose your income), so hes confident in you.

Give up. You will never make a good driver. in fact from what you say, you are a dangerous driver. Stop before you kill someone. Learn to use buses.

Boils down to your thought pattern. U need to think more positive of yourself. Closed doors or failed test don't describe who u r. Encourage yourself, u r more than a conquerer, u r an overcomer, u can do all things thru Christ

I found that long drives helped one settle down and get used to the road - if you have someone qualified to go with you.

If you don't succeed try try again but in your case, I would suggest a taxi. Sounds like you are just not ready to drive

Hi. I think your nerves are getting worse because your instructor is telling you that you are a good driver and then you fail your test, making you think that it is only going wrong on your test day. Maybe you are not quite ready for your test yet. Have you tried getting a second opinion from a different instructor? Maybe it is your instructor who is at fault NOT YOU! You should find a top instructor - one who has been evaluated as a Grade 6 - he/she will then be able to tell you if you are ready or not. I think that you should persevere - unless another (Grade 6) instructor tells you that you should think again! I didn't know that instructors were graded until I read it on drivinghelp.com which has other useful tips and hints too. Good luck and don't give up yet!

What are your driving skills like when you are with the instructor? l would get a 2 hour lesson - and drive independently with your instructor in the passenger seat and get him/her to write down the faults you make, and then talk it over and try to rectify them. But ultimately, the best thing to do is to pretend the examiner is not in that seat. Just think to yourself that you've passed, and you're driving on your own - be in your own little bubble but also concentrate on the road and your observation and anticipation! You can do it.
