How can I get my UK driver's license quick? I live outside of the UK...?

• I currently live in Spain, but I'm British-born and retain my British Citizenship. Before moving to Spain I lived in Canada for 18 years, and my driver's license is no good here. Eventually I plan to move to the UK, but in the meantime (perhaps the next 8 months to a year) I need a driver's license. I cannot get one in Spain as the requirements are too complicated for my current circumstances, so I'm wondering if there is a way I can get my license in the UK and then come back to Spain? What is required to get your license in the UK? An address? Do you have to be there for an extended period of time? How long does it take to actually book a date and take the test? Considering I haven't lived in the UK for a long time (I don't even have an NI number, although I'm sure there is one in the system for me), will it be difficult to get my license? Any information you can offer on what I would need to do would be most helpful. Thanks!

  You need to be resident in the UK for at least 185 days before you can apply for a UK provisional licence. You will then need lessons and take the theory and hazard classroom test and then the practical. It is not considered by many easy to get a full licence in the UK. More fail the first test than pass it. You would need lessons to learn how to pass the test and get out of habits that you will have that are not acceptable in a UK test. The Spanish test will be no harder than the UK one. A Spanish licence, just like any other EU issued licence, is valid in the UK until you are 70 or can simply be exchanged for a UK one
