What is the entire process of getting a Driver's License in California?

Question about getting my drivers license in California?

  • I am getting my drivers license soon. I'm a bit past 16 and I've had my permit for long enough with driving instruction. I scheduled an appointment with the DMV for two days, one day for a written test and the other for a road test. Earlier today, my friend told me that there is no written test to get the license, only a road test. He said that the written test I took to get my permit is the only written test there is. Is it true that there is no written test to get your license?

  • Answer:

The written test you took to obtain your Learner's Permit is the only written test you need to take. Schedule your Skills (behind the wheel) test and go for it. Make sure you have current registration and proof of insurance for the vehicle when you go. If you fail, you can schedule a re-test, and that will cost $6. for the re-test.
