When can i get my driver's license?

Can i get a drivers license when i turn 16 or do i still need to go through the Driver's permit in CA?

  • I was wondering if is it legal to get a drivers license when i turn 16 in CA? Well, i am turning 16 this summer and my mom hasn't got me my driver's permit yet. So i asked her if i can just go ahead and get the license and take the tests and others on summer. One of my friend said that i can and one of them said no. So what is it? Can i get a license when i quallify on the test and the driver's test or do i really have to get my driver's permit, wait 6 months and take test and get the license?

    You'll still have to get a permit and go through all the other steps since you're under 18. Sorry. Before being eligible to take your driving test you must: Be 16 years old AND * Have held your permit for a minimum of six months AND * Have completed driver education AND * Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training AND * Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 years or older. The adult must have a valid California driver license and certify to the 50 hours of practice. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night.

yes, there are certain requirements you have to do under 16, like driving school. if you wait til your 18, you dont have to worry about driving school, just do the written and the actual driving test.
