How long does an HGV provisional license last?

To get my HGV License is it better to use a broker or a training centre of my own?

  • i've been in contact a few weeks ago with a broker called ADVANTAGE to do my class 1, does anyone have any info on them? they say that they will once i've passed the test then start looking for jobs for me, there saying that i can expect to earn £525 per week for about 50 hours work, Monarch who recruit for Tesco's advertise £10 per hour so it seems to match. I've been reading that drivers are not very well paid but £525 a week seems ok. If there are any hgv drivers out there can you let me know what you think, your opinion would be much appreciated.

    1. Tesco do not allow drivers without at least 2 years licnce experience 2. £525 a week is quite possible for 50 hours depending on where you are but in some areas of the counrty 50 hors will get ytou a lot less

Reality check - nobody gets £525 as a newly qualified L.G.V. driver, regardless of what companies might want to claim. You will have to do the same as every other lorry driver before you - start at the bottom and work up. This is especially the case at the moment, because there are thousands of experienced L.G.V. drivers who are out of work and looking for jobs, as a result of the recession. If experienced drivers cannot find work, what chance does a newby have?

Scam, con, call it what you will, they're talking BS. No way will a newly qualified HGV driver get that amount per week, even an experienced driver would be lucky to earn that.

well yes you could bur not for tesco ...try stobarts they take on new drivers but you wont be doing 50 hours a week more like 70 ......
