Why are SUVs in RWD when in 2x4 mode?

Why do ppl drive SUVs that they cant drive with another car?

  • Ok u guys there are so many better alternatives that are way more enviromently friendly. Like a 2x4 pickup, a minivan, or a wagon. Gosh dont say wagons are ugly either! They have gotten to look much better, besides if you want to go to the outback with a 4x4, why not get a 4x4 wagon...a suburu. Why do ppl by suvs? Tell me!

  • Answer:

what kills me are the people that buy those big *** SUV's and the only thing the cart around in them is themselves! i'm single and have tons of money to literally waste, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to spend it on gas.

The Outback does not get any better mileage than a Tahoe. My fathers Murano gets 25 or better on the highway and the new Grand Cherokee deisel will get about the same. Most minivans get around 18mpg, so there is not much difference.

Quite frankly, why does it matter? I love SUVs because the're roomy, and stylish (at least mine is). Plus, if you ever end up in a ditch, 4X4 can be really helpful. Stop pushing your "green" agenda on everyone else. If you want to go around in a lame little compact, go ahead.

If you want to drive & ride in a toy, go ahead. I drive it because I like the size, safety, passenger & cargo capacity, towing capacity, and off road capability. None of the vehicles you mention will do all that. If you don't like my SUV, no one is going to force you to use one, but you have no right to decide what I drive.

In a word, SNOW! We don't all live in Florida. Try driving in snow with a 2 wheel drive anything and it will make you want to stay home. Also, kids come with a lot of crap that takes up space. It's hard to fit stuff in the trunk of a sedan. Besides all that, I happen to think that the environment is going to do what it's going to do, no matter what we humans do. We are not that big. The environment has been here longer than we have and the Bible never says anything about a big environmental crisis coming someday. Besides, if something did happen, it would kill off a bunch of people and recover itself, and than we start over. What fun is living if we have to conserve everything. I don't diet and I don't try to conserve. Actually I look for ways to earn more money so that I can use even more resources and have even more fun while I'm here on earth. My wife drives a small SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) and I drive a mid-size sedan. I do see your point concerning those who drive those mammoth trucks converted into SUVs, like the Escalade or Suburban. Especially when it's just one person in it. Children are probably the largest impact on the environment, so I am doing my part by only having one.

They drive their SUVs to save money on gas and help the environment. Their other car is a 454 Chevy Dually (this is a 2x4 pickup by the way). Come on all you liberals, get a life. Besides there are plenty of SUVs that get over 20 mpg and plenty of cars and trucks that get MUCH WORSE. Nobody is complaining about THOSE because this is all a bunch of LIBERAL BS.......You are being PROGRAMMED! Oh, and when you die in your little Toyota Pious (YES I MEANT TO SPELL IT THAT WAY) when you hit an SUV headon and fall into pieces, look down from Heaven (or up from Hell).........I'll be the one at the pump filling up my Escalade laughing. (by the way.......I don't seriously drive an Escalade, I drive a CAR.......a TOWN CAR that gets about 18 mpg......which is the same as an Explorer or Blazer that you are complaining about)

I have a 03 Excursion. I am disabled and have a electric mobilty scooter. The Excursion has a lift that places the scooter into the back of the vehicle. It also allow me to take my large family with me when we go places. We also have a pontoon boat. I use the Excursion to pull the pontoon trailer. We also had a travel trailer, but sold it for the boat. Back then, I needed the Excursion to be able to pull the trailer through the mountains. We also use the 4 wheel drive to got through the snow on desolate areas where you do not see other vehicles for quite some time. We get alot of snow up here in the winter. I was the victim of a headon car collision. Both vehicles were going 55 at impact. I have 11 screws and 8 plates in me where you have a left hip socket. I also shattered my right hip, messed up my back, both knees, left shoulder and my left ankle in the accident. The other guy fell asleep at the wheel after having drugs, booze and illegal pills. This is why I have a mobility scooter. By needing to use a scooter and having a Excursion, I am able to get a discount on my registration yearly. I get 20 plus miles per gallon with the Excursion (diesel engine). We had a new full size van for 3 weeks and it got 11 mpg. Resale value on a minivan, station wagon, etc... is low in comparison to the Excursion. Insurance costs $30 more for six months of coverage when compared to a minivan. I appreciate your concerns, we do have a minivan that is our primary vehicle. If we do not need to use the Excursion, we take the van.

Why do we drive SUV's? Cuz we want too.... I have 2 and im buying another one this summer. SUV's get better milage than sports cars so I dont see why you automatically say all SUV's are not environment friendly. I love my big SUV's and I haul alot of stuff in them. They are the best vehicle for traveling, and I travel alot. I dont like cars and will never own one. I will own nothing but an SUV and that is my choice. We all have preferences in life, if you dont like SUV's..... then turn the other way..... americans love them.
