It took me 2 years to pass!! I got on really well at first, then I just couldn't get it good enough to pass my test. Is there any particular things you struggle with? If so, speak to your instructor. If you're only having a 1 hour lesson a week, maybe you aren't driving enough to get used to it. Can your dad take you out in between lessons, or maybe have another lesson a week? I had problems with looking around me enough. Once I learned sequences for where to look when for all the maneovers it just kind of clicked. Now I'm the one saying "don't do that there is a car there" when other people are driving! My boyfriend learned in a manual, then had to drive his boss' automatic. It took him about 20 seconds to learn, but sadly I don't think it works the other way round, so learning in a manual would definately be more useful!

could try for an automatic if you're struggling, that happened to me i was totally not getting anywhere even with changing instructors.I gave up though in the end not even an automatic would improve me driving skills!

If you are having problems with changing gear it may be an option, give it a go, if your driving improves it may give you the confidence to go back to a manual. If you pass your test in an auto you will have to take another test to be able to drive a manual.

Stick at it. You will find that when you go to buy an automatic car it will cost you a few thousand more than the manual version. Besides you never know when you may need to drive another car in an emergency
Yeah yeah yeah
i think you should stick with the manual. then when you pass you'll be able to drive both a manual and an auto. the main thing you need to do is perservere. if you're anything like me it will come together all of a sudden! don't worry about it too much, once you have passed it'll become a distant memory, believe me. Good luck to you

The best way to become more confident is to ask your family to help you out. Drive off road (in a big car park) to gain confidence. Whether its a manual or automatic car it doesnt really matter. I helped my daughter and gave her about 15 hour lessons, then she went to the driving school and took another 10 lessons and that was it................guess what she passed. And go to an instructor who is well known in your area. Ask your friends to recommend one.

if i were you i'd just stick at it. it will come together. perhaps you have a family member or friend who could take you out for some lessons that way you will get more practice without the cost. the problem with learning in an automatic is that if you pass yrou test in an automatic then that will be the only type of car you can drive. unless you retake your test in a manual. if you have an automatic only licence then it will cost more to buy and run a car it will also limit your selection of cars to choose from especially in the small car market.

I would say a automatic would be easier to take a raoa test in, but it is up to you. I passed everything on the first try and didn't think it was all that hard, but I am a pretty good driver, being around cars most of my life, and most of my family was employed by the BIG 3 Those were the days....... Motor city - - long gone now....
