Suggestions for a unique number plate?

Car Plate Numbers are supposed to be unique right?

  • A couple of days ago I got a letter from the Police saying I had a speeding fine and would get some points on my licence .The car registration number is mine. However, today I had to go into town and was also going to post of the documents for the speeding fine (like the license number and the declarationit was me driving) and I parked in a multi-storey car park. For some reason I forgot where my car was parked and was looking around for it on loads of different levels. I was looking for my number plate as a lot of cars have a similiar design and colour to mine. I discovered the same make car as mine with my car plate number on it.!The only difference is the colour of the car. The make and car plate number is the same...even the same dealership. I even checked there and then ...as I had not posted the letter off to the police yet. Is this possible? I am pretty certain in reference to the speeding fine ...it is me..but how can someone else be driving around with my car plate number?

You should report this to the police as soon as possible, I don't suppose you took a photo of it or got an independant witness ? It could be that your car is the ringer.

Quite easily I guess all they have to do is get a plate made up obviously from some one dodgy. My number plate came up in a ram raid different car but same number plate it happens I had nothing to do with it, and I hope the police caught the real criminals but I doubt it.

they are supposed to be unique, but like with everything that has a lot of paper stuff to be filled out and send to wherever and so on, it's very possible that sometimes something falls through the cracks and as a result there a two cars with the same plates. kind of rare but it happens. heard about it in germany as well =)

number plates are meant to be unique unless sum1 is using fake ones

Wow, this should not be legal anywhere in the US or in Europe! I would suggest, definitely check with your local Police Department and find out what the heck is going on!

Report it to the police & dvla... a index number is uneque to the individual car.

that is illegal, and fraud!! it could have been the car dealership tax dodging, or it could be the car owner,so that they don't get caught speeding etc. but either way it is wrong and you should report it to the police and insist they look into it for you! :) good luck

The other car owner has stolen your cars identity go and tell the cops dude
