What can I do about my employer fitting a tracker in my works van?
-
My employer is fitting a tracker in my works van and I am veryunhappy about this. I feel it is an infringement of my human rights. Does anyone know if it is possible to stop them fitting a tracker
-
Answer:
No. If the van belongs to the company, it is their property and they can fit anything they like to it. All our company vehicles are fitted with trackers primarily for security reasons but also so we can see where our service engineers and sales reps are at any time. It has virtually eliminated incidents of personnel going "AWoL" and it also allows us to verify charges for service call-outs if they are queried. At the end of the day, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. All this human rights bollocks is part of the reason that this country is in the mess that it is.

It's their vehicle, they can fit it with purple wings and a rubber cow on the roof if they want to. Are you using the van for something you shouldn't? If not, what's your worry?

Sure. Quit.

It's not your van, you drive it, but it belongs to the company. They have every right to know where the van is at all times since they are liable for any damage done to or by the van. If you're not doing something you're not supposed to, why should it matter?

It's his van he can fit what he wants. Could be he thinks the van is doing excessive mileage and he wants to know if you are touring the country side in or outside working hours, or he just wants to know where you are so he can find you easily, and then again just in case the van gets stolen it will help the police find it, and then perhaps the insurance is cheaper for him with the tracker fitted and working. You can always ask him why it's there if you don't have anything to hide why worry.

If you are a hardworking employee who follows the rules, you have nothing to complain about.

you have no personal rights in their work van. get a life.

it is not possible to stop it. it is tracking the vehicle movements not you. therefore no court will stop it. if it was fitted to you then yes.
