How to make conveyor belts for restaurants?

Do you think this is a good idea. Good way to generate electricity?

  • we could invest a moving surface maybe something like a conveyor belt to be used on certain spots on the road, and as cars drove over this spot the speed of the cars turns the belts to make electricity. sort of like a windmill but instead with cars. lets use the millions of cars on the road to generate more power

    I think it coud be done , someway, like certin spots on the road as a vehicle passes it turns a gate like thing, but not touch the vehicle ,its worth looking into tho, as the vehicle passes it spins like a slot machine and spins a turbin and power stored , sure it could work and its a great Idea, people have the wrong Idea,m cars are already on the road so make use of the billions that are on the road, its a great idea I say some device that as cars go by , spins somthing , cars are on the road everyday millions and get them to do 2 things from one I say yes, its better than what we have now nada

How about this: remove speed bumps and put short conveyor belts in sections of the road where people who accelerate excessively while driving over them cause the belts to turn rather than their car gaining speed so quickly. The belts could be connected to dynamos that feed the resulting electricity to the main grid. Two birds, one stone, less wear and tear on shocks. When the belt spins, an indication light would need to illuminate so the car behind the car would know to slow down, as the car's break lights would not be an indication as in the case with speed bumps.

There would be no gain in energy. The energy coming from the wheels to power the conveyor/generator would be subtracted from the power that moves the car. So it would generate electricity, but the car would require much more gas to reach its destination. There would be inefficiency from frictional losses, and more pollution.

Terrible idea. Cars aren't very efficient at converting the chemical energy in gasoline to motive energy, then there's drivetrain losses, then there are even more drivetrain losses in your idea, then conversion losses again. It won't work economically, you're better off burning the gasoline directly to generate electricity. Essentially its like the dual-drive system in hybrid cars. The over-spin from the engine is used to power a generator to power batteries, which in turn provide stored energy to the electric motor. Nice try though.

Keep thinking. This one won't go anywhere. Generating electricity using gasoline is very inefficient and the mechanical losses to friction of the belt mechanism would be horrendous.
