How much does it cost to learn to fly a helicopter?

If you are a helicopter pilot, then tell me how do you fly and how much does this cost to learn to fly?

  • Answer:

I'm currently studying to get my private, commercial, CFI and CFII. It's a pain, but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. The whole thing, if you are flying the Robinson R22 at about 210 per hr. (the Schwiezer 300 cbi is about 300 hr, though has a higher inertia rotor system) will cost from 40k to 55k. I've learned not to rush things at all. Don't pay attention to the hour-limitations (20hrs to solo, 50 hrs to private), they only frustrate. I suggest to do two months of research. Use your free time to go online and get phone numbers from helo companies. Call these people and talk to them. They were in your situation once before. There is also the option of the military. If you don't want to get shot at, join the Coast Guard. They will pay for your training, you'll train on a turbine (not piston), it'll look good that you were in the military, and you don't have a huge debt to pay off. Also look up the forum on www.vertical reference.com I've found them to be quite helpful. Drop me a line if you have any questions. [email protected] Happy trails.
