Do penalty point on your license start from the date give on or the date of the offence they are gave for?

I have got to go to court for driving without insurance. I need to know if the penalty points that will go on my license, do the points go on my license from the date of the offence or the date they are gave on?

Answer:
It depends on what the points are given for. Insurance is "normally" from date of offence unless disqualified. Check here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/DG_4022550

Depends on what the endorsement is for - for minor ones it is from the offence but for the major ones it is from conviction - explained below with Direct.Gov evidence "How long endorsements stay on your driving licence An endorsement must stay on your driving licence for the following periods of time: Eleven years from date of conviction If the offence is: drinking or drugs and driving - shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80 causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs – shown on the licence as CD40, CD50 and CD60 causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis – shown on the licence as CD70 Example: Date of conviction is 3 December 2002 - the endorsement must stay on the licence until 3 December 2013. Four years from the date of conviction If the offence is for: reckless/dangerous driving - shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80 offences resulting in disqualification disqualified from holding a full driving licence until a driving test has been passed Example: Date of conviction is 28 May 2004 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 28 May 2008. Four years from the date of offence In all other cases. Example: Date of offence 10 June 2005 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 10 June 2009."

For that offence, they apply from the date of the offence. It varies, for some offences it's from date of conviction, others (including yours) are from date of offence.
The date that they are given on .

Currently there has not been any judgment as you are going to court. So technically you are not guilty of anything right now. In court if you are found guilty that is when your penalty or points start, you could always ask for an extension or another court date and elongate the process hopping the officer that gave you the ticket does not show up. You set the next date don't let them set the date, tell them you need more counseling, but do get counseling so you know if you have even a slight chance of getting off. I am not supporting not having insurance but with the rip off prices of insurance now days is not uncommon for decent people to have to choose between feeding their kids or paying for auto insurance, so I am not going to judge you, but if I can i can help pass some info around. Get a free meeting with a lawyer to see what your options are....GOOD LUCK... don't simply take the points because that is leverage for the rip off insurance companies to rate you higher, even if you never had an accident. If you agree to the fines or anything ask only in the condition they wave off the points, you can always talk to the prosecutor before you go in front of the judge.

if it's a minor offence that's just simply a case of a ticking off at the roadside and having to send your payment then its from the date the offence was committed but for anything more serious offences or ones that result in you having to go to court including driving without a license, dangerous driving, extreme excessive speed (like doing in excess of 100+mph) or anything like so wd normally b from the date of conviction/court date rather than date of offence so i would assume it be from the date of court conviction in your case

If you are convicted the points go on from the date of conviction - until that date you are innocent. For insurance purposes they will have to be declared for 5 years even if they come off the licence after 4.
