How does a radio transmitter work?

Radio Transmitter/Receiver Crash Warning System (an invention) - Would it work?

  • Basically this is a small transmitter/receiver box (also with a crash sensor) that would be fitted in all cars/all new cars. This would sense when there was a crash and cause a light to light up on the dashboards of all cars within say, a hundred meter radius - or at least all cars with the same device fitted. I think it could be made cheaply because it could use a similar technology to wireless doorbells which you can buy now for under 10 pounds. I've made a poster that might describe it a little better here - http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/5107/compositejpeg.jpg As usual I promise no spam or viruses with the link :)

  • Answer:

Many newer vehicles already have this in-place and it wont be long before its standard on all vehicles. Collision Warning System (CWS).

If you were within 100 meters of a crash I think you'd know about it... More to the point what good is the warning? Travelling at speed in a crowded road it might well cause even more crashes as some drivers emergency braked whilst others ignored it or were busy yacking on their cellphone. I appreciate the thought you've put into it I just think it would have a negative effect on car safety.

ONSTAR has a better system. Your system would be a major distraction to other drivers and would likely cause a series of accidents.
