  • Ok, Im wondering this lateley, When your on the highway, freeway, road, where ever. Why is it that your to lazy to use your turn signal? I know some of them are slow. Its like right there by your left hand. Why dont use you it? are you that lazy?

  • Answer:

Wow! there are a lot of answers to your question, some people are on the phone and don't even know they're changing lanes, some people forget to put the window down so they can hand signal, some people just don't think it's necessary, some people think it's a show of weakness, some people are just plain inconsiderate some people's turn signals don't work and think hand signals are too old fashioned for other people to recognize anymore, some people are driving someone else's car and the turn signal lever may not be where they think it should be. and on and on it goes!

Ahhhh.....one of my favorite peeves. I have come to the conclusion that many drivers simply don't know what that little lever is for that's located on the left side of their steering column. No one could possibly be that lazy - it takes no effort. It's just got to be ignorance.

yea seriously im a beginner going for my license saturday and when i drive somewhere and ppl try to cross over it scares the crap out of me when they dont use them! they could cause a serious accident

Moni

That's usually the hand I'm talking on my phone with because I have to adjust the radio with the other hand. So yeah, I'm kind of lazy.

Great question! I'm not sure why so many people refuse to let other drivers know what they are about to do, it only makes sense considering the consequence's, but some folks still drive as though they are on the road all alone. The best thing to do to counter the problem is to drive defensively...ALWAYS!!. Leave extra stopping room, adjust the distance between you and the other cars around you both in front and behind (a little extra distance from that car following you might be the difference between just hearing tire's squealing and actual car crunching). Also, be aware of the cars on both sides of you. You can rarely see their signals anyway, so if they start to drift your way try to think in advance where a safe out might be. I know, it sounds like you need about 12 eyes to drive safely, but really it's just being aware of your surroundings. The perception of whats around you, with experience and practice, only takes a split second to see and evaluate. It's that ability to see and react almost simultaneously that makes great race car drivers, truck drivers, cabbies as well as ambulance and other emergency vehicle operators. Now, in the hope that maybe a little education will help, lets talk about something that not many people even know about. If you look on the list of features your car had when you bought it new, you may see something called a 'lane change feature'. That is simply a little play built in to the turn signal lever that allows the driver to activate the signal without having it lock into position. And the name says exactly what it is designed for, being able to signal drivers around you of your intention to change lanes without having the signal stay on once you've completed your lane change. Seeing someone driving down the road, blissfully unaware that their signal is indicating that they are about to turn left off of the second level of a highway transition bridge may be funny, but it's the kind of misinformation that can, under the worst situations, cause accidents. That means that an occasional glance down at your instrument panel is a good idea. Yeah, another thing to pay attention to, but believe me, after a while, all those things will become automatic after a while.

Lazy, self-centered, ignorant. Yes, many are on the phone (as one poster even dared to admit), and there really aren't a whole lot of people out there who take safe driving seriously. Every driver you see not using one, is one of those drivers. That's kinda scary when you think about it. It's pitiful and dangerous, and the ones that don't use them should be ridiculed. I've even mentioned it to friends of mine who weren't using them. I have yet to hear a good excuse.

Duh - I like to surprise other drivers - it keeps them on their toes and more alert. And then they come on here and start ranting - that's the best part of all. They actually believe that they can change my behaviour while doing it - they are wrong. Besides - if I don't use my turn signals the bulbs last longer.
