Can you park on speed bumps?

Speed bumps in mobile home park?

  • I live in a mobile home park in California, it is a small park under 100 spaces) with mostly seniors. The park added 8 new speed bumps yesterday without informing the residents. Is this legal? some of the speed bumps and next to the old ones creating a double bump they are close enough together that both rear and front tires are on top when crossing. I drive a suv and even at under 10mph it causes the car to jerk and rock very uncomfortably. Is there anything i can do? The park is designed in a horse shoe and now has 14 speed bumps

    No they dont have to inform you. Its not your road. If you owned the road it would be a different story. Dont hit the speed bumps at 10 mph if its to bumpy. Try 5 mph instead

Perfectly legal on a privately maintained road. But talk to the city folks. They may have something to say about it if it impedes emergency vehicle traffic even if it is on a privately maintained road. Just like your home has to meet certain building codes even though it is your privately owned home, so must the roadway that is used for access through the park. Don't accept the "it's on private property so we can't do anything about it" excuse. Just tell them that they do have something to say if your home doesn't meet code.

There was a story here in Texas just like what you are going through and what happened was that one of the seniors tripped and broken her hip, needless to say that after the law suit they removed many of the speed bumps.. What you should do is talk with the other people and explain just how dangerous this can be and get a signed petition to remove many of them and get the local TV news station involved as well.. I bet that once your neighbors hear what you have to say and as a group talk with the owner/owners of the park they will remove many of these..
