Driving permit in Illinois?

Question about the new Illinois teen driving law: permit for 9 months? *BEST ANSWER!!!!!!!*?

  • Okay, so I started Drivers Ed last semester [started in September ..] and the new teen driving law that was effective Jan 1st stating teens have to have their permit for 9 months before obtaining a drivers license. If I had my permit before then does that law still require for me? I'll turn 16 in February so it'll be 6 months. Is it the grandfather clause or do I have to wait the other 3 months??? Best answer to whoever answers me ..well the best!

    Looks like you have to wait the additional 3 months...DMV will look at the date of issue and go on that to determine the 9-month life of the permit, regardless of when the law went into effect. Good opportunity to hone those skills and perhaps not have to deal with winter weather on your road test. All the best!
