How do you turn left if you're riding in the bike lane?

I you want to ride your bicycle on a main road and must turn left at an intersection, what is the proper way?

  • to do it, following all laws? I normally ride my bike to a fabric and craft store 4 miles down the road. I must cross the road to other side to get in the shopping plaza, They say you must ride your bike in the road with the flow of traffic now, which is consider very dangerous. And wearing a helmet will not save you from injury. Riding in the bike lane, will not prevent you from getting hit. The curb helps quite a bit in this area. If sidewalks are now only for pedestrians, I would like to say that I and several people I know of walk very well on dirt ang grass and raised sidwalks in parts cause people to trip any way. But aside from this, following the law, let's say I'm riding with the flow of traffic, going slower than 10 miles an hour, impeding traffic, by the way, which is as fast as my little bike will go, and I need to get in the left lane to get over to the other side of the road. There is such heavy traffic that even when the light is red, the traffic is still coming. In a moving vehicle (a car, not a bike), it is easy to merge, going with the flow of traffic. It is very easy to look behind you for a second while driving forward at 35 mph to see if you have enough room to get in the other lane. But on a bicycle, with only two wheels, every time I have looke behind me while riding, I can't help but turn slightly to the left and lose balance. Now this is a very good way to get in a serious accident. Your thoughts? Thanks.

  • Answer:

no idea but only thing i can think of is if u make a left turn point ur left arm sharply down like u mean it and if u make a right use ur left arm and point it up. that is what drivers in cars do if there lights are out and they will understand it if they went through driving school. so that would be a way to tell them where u are going.
