How long is the boot in a Vauxhall Vectra?

Is it legal to fit an extra seat in the boot of your car?

  • we drive a vauxhall vectra estate and have 3 children and have another 1 on the way, i would just like to know if it is safe and legal to fit a extra seat and seat belt in the boot as its really big and we really dnt have the money to upgrade to a people carrier, hope someone can help me with my problem.

    Nope it is not legal in the UK your going to have to get a new car with the number of seats you require. You can not skimp on the safety of your family.

Besides being dangerous in the event of a shunt, I would doubt that it would be allowed in law and you would not be covered by insurance. You may be able to find a second hand people carrier at a reasonable price. gladgran

It is only legal if the work is approved by a V.O.S.A. inspector and the D.V.L.A. change the vehicle type on the V5. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to get either of those things done.

As an estate car doesnt have a boot it has a load area you are asking the question incorrectly. However it is very unlikely you would get that approved or insured but if you still need to know for definate try asking at a Ministry testing station (where they test lorries and buses), a phone call should be enough.

What an incredibly silly idea this is part of the crumple zone in the vehicle if any body was riding in the Trunk/boot of a vehicle that became involved in a tail end crash they would be seriously injured or more likely killed.

is "boot" a local term for trunk? you would need to check the laws for your area, which i would assume to be UK or australia.... in cali, it is legal to install seats and seat belts, just as long as everything is properly bolted to the vehicle. only vehicles i have seen with added seats were trucks. in the bed of the truck.
