Topic: Winter Driving: Background info: My name is Amy, and I guess by the name it tells you I’m a girl. I live in Central Vermont, and went to school in Michigan so I had my share of winter driving and got stuck way too many times. I work in a rather professional office so I wear a lot of skirts and dresses. I have a 2003 Mustang with manual transmission and a 2006 Mustang with automatic transmission. On this particular night I had my 2006 Mustang, it has summer tires on it, and this was the first time in the snow with it. I had left work about 7pm, we had a 3 inch mixture of snow and ice on the roads and cars, it was still snowing lightly. Actually due to my being somewhat of an air head I had to let the car warm up about 15 minutes because I neglected to put a snow brush and ice scraper in the car. So after warming the car up, I struggled to get the car our of my parking space and out of the parking lot, and managed to make my way to the entrance ramp to the interstate, a normal 10 minute drive which this night took about 30 minutes. The entrance ramp was clogged with cars trying to make it up, so I thought that I would drive to my tennis club to burn a little time and use the ladies room because by now I had to go sooooo badly. The club is located in a part of an industrial complex, I turned onto the road leading to the club, and was not picky as to where to park which was a parallel parking space in front of the building, only to find the place closed. The area where my club is, is not widely traveled and you somewhat have to go out of your way to find it, and also in a bad area as my cell phone could not get a signal. Once back in the car I found myself stuck so badly, spinning my wheels helplessly. Not that I mind being stuck, because for me I feel sexy and helpless spinning my wheels in my Mustangs, and you often meet some real cute hunks who are more than gladly to rescue the “damsel in distress”, however I was really not going anywhere, and I was getting super frantic because of my need to use the ladies room at this time and I was rather desperate by now. I think I was there for a total of two hours to 2 and ½ hours and must have been on a lot of ice also because I was not going anywhere, wheels just spinning and spinning, when a plow operator who plows the club parking lot came by and helped me out of my situation. I finally made it home about two hours or so later. My old Mustang is a manual transmission, with all season. I usually was able to get around most of the time, got stuck a many times, and was usually able to rock it out, occasionally I would need a push, and this is the first year though with an automatic. Of course having to use the ladies room as badly and desperately as I had to and not being very picky about finding a better parking location and I think being as frantic as I was because of the need to go I believe did not help, because I am sure that I nailed it at first trying to get out to find somewhere else to go, and I just dug into the snow and ice pretty deep creating myself some ruts of my own. My poor skirt though. The first few times getting stuck, and most of the time, I was the only one stuck it was pretty embarrassing, being the only one in a flat parking lot spinning your wheels, however over the years I have come to enjoy being stuck in the snow and ice, and that seems to happen every time it snows because there is an advantage to being an attractive female and that is a lot of cute guys show up to help you out, seems to be a nice way of meeting guys, so in almost every snowfall I get stuck and sometimes on purpose just to meet someone. I cannot afford snow tires so I drive right now with the all seasons with me 2003 Mustang and summer tires on the 2006 Mustang that came with the car and you really are stuck with those. Although I do get stuck at time deliberately to meet guys, this time was a real predicament I got into you might say. I was really not thinking straight by then seeing the club closed and having to desperately use the ladies room. You must know how you get frantic and panic, when in that situation and I was really not in the mood to meet anyone just looking for relief. Also one of my problems is that it seems like every time I get my car stuck in the snow, ice of mud it’s an instant signal to my bladder to start to act up, and makes me have to use the ladies room desperately and most of the time I end up having a wetting accident. Sometimes I actually look forward to getting stuck in the snow. I feel so sexy and helpless in my Mustang, and you get to meet a lot of cute guys who always seem to show up to lend a helping hand or an encouraging word. The only time it becomes a problem is when you have to use the ladies room badly. Okay I know I was long in my background information, so here is my question. Question: I would like to know from you guys other than getting new tires, which might or might not of helped what a girl should keep in her car so that she was have a decent chance to getting out of a situation (if I want to) again I know there are going to be times when I might not be able to do it on my own, however I would just say like to have an 80% chance at it. I really would like a list which could be a survival kit for female drivers in the snow. Also do you think snow tires would have made any difference in this situation, or would I have been still stuck on and in the ice snow mixture? And are there any other girls out there who have over active bladders that start acting up when your car gets stuck in the snow or are in a stressful situation like that.

As soon as you said you had summer tires and it snowed. I stopped reading. Get some mud and snow tires yesterday already. Also "PEDAL TO THE METAL" driving does not work in the snow(with any kind of tire). This is where the little 4 bangers have it over the powerful V8's. Not much use to you when you can't move. Can you run on ice? No- be flat on yer face you would. You walk carefully so your shoes can get some traction. Same goes for the 2500lb metal beast. You may be pretty, but you are a ditsy airhead. SUMMER MEANS SUMMER - MUD AND SNOW MEAN JUST THAT. Can't afford new tires? Don't drive. Buy used ones at the tire store.60% tread left or something to that nature. on all 4 wheels. (You are gonna wear them off fast anyways if you insist on spinning the tires. --You don't want to spin the tires-- Once the tires start spinning, you have lost traction. Let go of the gas pedal and go slower. You will have better results. You will move. What should you carry? A Bag of sand like the ones used for flood protection should be in the trunk, so you can dribble a trail of sand in front of your tires a ways when it is really slick so you can get momentum of movement - slo movement, but movement. Also a shovel of some kind. As soon as your tires spin or slide you have lost control of steering . Learn about the driving in a vacant parking lot with ice and snow and experiment a bit. Prove that blondes can drive.

Can't underestimate proper tires on a car. They are your lifeblood when your driving. Bad tires can not only let you get stuck but you stopping power is diminished and is an overall safety hazard. You can still get stuck on purpose with great tires just takes more effort to do so. What others have said for the kit. Shovel and some sort of stuff for traction .. salt, sand .. carpets .. special tools you can also get that you can put under your tires for traction. But warm coats, candles, food like chocolate and trail mixes. Crank radio and flashlight that doesn't need batteries (crank or shake type) Keep your cell charged and maybe even try walking somewhere a block or so and get to a high point if your in an area with no cell service. As to if snow tires would have helped... Probably not. A lot of snow especially if its wet and heavy will give even the most experience driver a headache and I've personally found that rear wheel drive cars drive worse then front wheel in this type of conditions especially if you have a heavy foot. :) Hope that helps you some. Keep Safe :)

and you actually think that someone has the time to sit here and read your autobiography
Hello!!!!
Wow, you must like to type (and talk about your bladder). Just join AAA Auto Club and call them when you need help.

way too much useless info here!...pack a bag of sand and a few burlap bags and a shovel...that is all that's needed to get unstuck...and if it were me coming to your rescue...wear that skirt with no underwear...you could use my woodie to pry your way out

Go "commando" (pantyless)if you gotta pee a lot. Carry a bag of Kitty liter in your trunk to spread out on snow\ice for traction.
Mr. KnowItAll
Get all season tires. Get rid of the lead foot, start out slow on icy roads. Get a better cell phone company and insurance that covers towing. Keep a change of warm clothes in the car. Keep a small snow shovel, snow brush, scraper, and rock salt or sand in your car. If you get stuck, dig out as much lose snow and ice as possible from around the drive wheels and put down the salt or sand for traction. And get a clue. Never get stuck on purpose. You never know what kind of psycho that hunk that stops to help may be.

Rock Salt , Old Rugs and a small shovel.......Mustangs really are NOT good winter cars rear wheel drive. In my opinion the auto shift is the safer of the two too drive in adverse weather .There's more of a chance of a spin out with the manual shift due to the fact that when you depress the clutch to shift gears you are removing the power to the rear wheels and reinstating the power when you release the clutch and on ice this can have very bad results.......also it's easier to rock a auto shift

like the one guy said rock salt,a couple bags of sand for weight and if you get stuck use it and a shovel if needed.the new tires might help some?as for the tinkle problem take a quart jar its better than wetting yourself or squat next to the mustang that could help with the cute guy thing too.
